Some Recent Developments in Recommendation Techniques

Recommender systems have emerged as key enabling methods to various applications by functioning as virtual experts that are keenly aware of the user's preferences and tastes. In this talk our recent research in recommendation techniques will be presented. Specifically, we will show how the Human Factors (e.g. personality, expectation, sensitivity to different item qualities etc.) and Crowd Intelligence help to improve the recommendation performance in various applications such as APP recommendation, reading-material recommendation, Web page printing and so on. Besides the technical discussions we will also illuminate how to explore the different application characteristics and then identify interesting research problems.

报告人简介：

Ping Luo is currently an associate professor in the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He previously worked in the Hewlett-Packard Labs China as a Senior Research Scientist. He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His general area of research is knowledge discovery and machine learning. He has published 30+ papers in some prestigious refereed journals and conference proceedings, such as IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, ACM SIGKDD, ACM CIKM, IJCAI. He is the recipient of the Doctoral Dissertation Award, China Computer Federation (2009), the ACM CIKM Best Student Paper Award (2012). Prof. Luo is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the ACM.
