Network Address Translation and Peer-to-Peer Systems

时间:2012年4月6日 地点:九龙湖校区计算机楼313室

报告简介:

Network address translation (NAT) and peer-to-peer (P2P) applications are the two things that we encounter often nowadays in our 'Net life. Initially designed to connect more computers to the Internet with fewer public IP addresses, NAT also limits the direction of connectivity establishment, while P2P applications heavily rely on the contribution from individual peers to others to achieve the scalability. Therefore, there is a tension between NAT and P2P, as we have heard from end users, system designers and developers, and service providers. In this talk, we investigate the impact of NAT on BitTorrent-like P2P systems, for both file-sharing and video streaming applications, and examine the approaches to improving the capacity, performance and fairness of P2P systems in the presence of NAT devices, targeting a much smoother coexistence of NAT and P2P on the Internet.
