SDN presents a lot of attractive features such as its programmability and flexibility in network function virtualization. As any traditional networks, various faults are inevitable in a SDN network, from software bug, malfunctioned hardware to policy misconfiguration. However, troubleshooting SDN becomes a more challenging task due to its programmability and flexibility. Identifying dynamic symptom-fault causality becomes a critical and nontrivial step towards effective troubleshooting for SDN. In this talk, I will discuss new challenges of fault diagnosis in SDN, and introduce several promising approaches.

Yongning Tang, Associate Professor, School of Information Technology Illinois State University His research interests are in fault diagnosis in large-scale distributed networking systems, cloud computing, network security, wireless networks, and traffic classification, as well as various machine learning and AI techniques.
